Hi, Iām Ivan novak.
Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. Anxiety, depression, self-doubt, or a growing sense of disconnection can leave us feeling stuck, uncertain, or simply exhausted by the effort of getting through each day. For others, life may appear to be going well on the outside, while internally something feels unsettled or unfulfilling. Whatever brings you to therapy, I believe it's important to have a place where you feel understood, supported, and able to explore new possibilities for moving forward.
My approach to therapy is compassionate, collaborative, and practical. I strive to create a comfortable, engaging environment where you can speak openly, gain a better understanding of yourself, and develop useful tools for navigating life's challenges. While insight and self-understanding are important, I also believe therapy should help you make meaningful changes beyond our sessions. Sometimes that involves learning to respond differently to difficult thoughts and emotions; other times it's about recognizing patterns, making decisions, or taking small steps toward change. And yes, there's often room for a little humor along the way.
I primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), helping clients develop a different relationship with difficult thoughts and feelings while making choices guided by their values. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, tailoring our work to your individual needs, strengths, and goals. I see therapy as a partnership, combining your understanding of your own life with my clinical experience and guidance.
My background includes counseling adults in private and community-based settings, more than 15 years of volunteer work with the American Red Cross in the United States and Japan, and 13 years living and working in Japan.
Whether you're navigating a difficult period or seeking deeper changes in your life, my goal is to help you develop greater self-understanding, confidence, and practical skills to move forward in ways that feel meaningful to you.
